Renting a flat in Mumbai.

(Me at my flat at TilakNagar(CHEMBUR)                        Grace CHS,near by BKC.)

Renting/Buying a flat in Mumbai is an arduous and expensive task.

Finding a flat near by workplace is a challenge as rents in Mumbai is exorbitantly high and transport communication is neither cheap nor hassle free for a common average earning family.

Flat rents may vary from 20 thousand to several lakhs.

If you are lucky to have a job in Navi Mumbai,it can be considered a blessing as Navi Mumbai (Kharghar,Nerul,Seawoods,Vashi ...) offers affordable rental flats and is cleaner and organised than rest of Mumbai.

But if your job location is outside Navi Mumbai,it can be a hectic daily job to reach your office and come back home.

My job location is in BKC and my wife work location is in Chembur Camp.So we decided to settle down nearby .Flat rents in Chembur/Tilak Nagar vary from 20 thousand to few lakhs too.

A one bhk can cost you 20 thousand to 40 thousand as per amenities, location and other factors.

A flat with a balcony and car parking costs few thousands more. For a family of 5 members,i had to rent 2.5 bhk flat.Yes ,you read it right there is a concept of half bhk flats too.We have to bear 36 thousand plus amenities charges per month. Moreover the amenities are very basic(car parking and two wheeler parking),nothing similar to Kharghar Nerul apartments( children's park, gym, swimming pool etc.)

Bhandup, kurla, thane and ghatkopar are some areas nearby which may also provides afforadable flats but are also costlier than Navi Mumbai.

The costliest properties are in BKC,Lower Parel and South Mumbai.Flat rents may range from few lakhs to even 14-15 lakhs.

             (may cost whopping 14lakhs/month)

You cannot rent a good flat without Brokers involvement.Property brokers are everywhere.Everywhere they charges a months rent. But some online sites such as No Broker has come up recently which may help one to get a flat without brokerage. But in my experience ,renting a flat through broker is preferable as they help in many related things such as processing of lease agreements, diagreements ,getting basic amenities in place and many more related things.

I will update this page as soon as i get more awareness about the Mumbai residential properties.

Sooner will update more about chembur residential locality and what it has to offer to its residents.
